Live Nativity

Before Christmas we went to the live Nativity in Alpine. I had no idea what to expect I just knew that it had gotten so popular, this year, they had to require tickets. As we were getting ready to go Jared was a little doubtful of the efforts I was going through to make sure we all had several layers and full on snow boots to wear. I would rather be over dressed than cold and miserable. Turns out it was all worth it since the temperature was in the teens and we were walking through farm land covered in snow.

We started out in a church parking lot where they loaded us into horse trailers with hay bales to sit on for a short ride to the nativity site. The whole nativity consisted of all kinds of live animals, people dressed in period clothes to tell us parts of the story or just about that time period, several big fires to warm up by, Roman soldiers, a market with basket weavers, bakers, scales to measure out grain and coins. Then of course the final stop was a barn with the manger scene, Mary and Joseph and a baby. With all the excitement outside the barn it was a remarkable feeling to walk in the barn and immediately feel and hear the hushed reverence.

Preston may not have big smiles in these pictures but he loved seeing all the animals. His favorite though, were the tractors he found tucked away throughout the farm.

The hot chocolate sure was a welcome treat at the end
