Our journey started 8:00 Saturday morning. We expected Preston to sleep for at least two of the 4 hour drive. He had a different idea and only slept for 30 minutes. Fortunately he did really well. As long as he either had food, a book, or his alphabet apple.
It was such a gorgeous drive with the bright blue skies and a dusting of white on everything as a result of the fog a few days before.
Preston had fun just walking around as we enjoyed the display of Carl Bloch paintings
Once my family got into town Jason's parent's were kind enough to invite us all over to their house for pizza until we had to head over to the reception. It was nice to go to this reception and just enjoy it instead of worrying about setting up, making sure there was enough food, and cleaning up. My younger siblings watched Preston so Jared and I were able to enjoy our time with my siblings and cousin. Since it was an open house and not a ton of people toward the end we brought out the cards and had a fun game of scum.
We stayed in a hotel Saturday night with the plan of sleeping in (as much as Preston would let us), getting ready and then catching an 11:00 ward. Lucky for us Preston did actually sleep in until after 8:30. Unfortunately Jared wasn't feeling so great Sunday morning so we wanted to get home as soon as possible. The new plan was to get breakfast and check out then attend the one earlier ward we could find, the 10:30 singles ward, so we could at least take the sacrament.
Jared and I were putting our shoes on to get breakfast at the hotel. We were just going to carry Preston without his shoes but when he saw what we were doing he found his shoes and brought them to us to put them on. Love the church shoes with the PJs.
Hanging out in the hotel doing what he does best, copying daddy.
Preston has been doing well sitting through sacrament meeting but when the ward is absolutely silent like a singles ward is then any tiny noise he makes is too much. Half way through sacrament I had to go in the hall when he pitched a fit because I wouldn't let him shake the container of gold fish. I was a bit embarrassed because we didn't really belong there anyway. Then of course, as is my luck when I'm in the hall with Preston, they did not bring the sacrament to the foyer.
Embarrassed and irritated because all we wanted was to take the sacrament we headed home. Jared still wasn't feeling well and it was now Preston's nap time. He refused to fall asleep in the car and just cried. After we thought we couldn't take it any more Preston finally fell asleep. Just then the dreaded red and blue lights start flashing behind us. Jared pulled over, Preston woke up, we were given a speeding ticket, words of frustration were expressed (if we had only been a few more miles down the road it would not have been speeding), and we were on our way again.
Preston never did fall asleep again until we got home. Thank heavens for this apple and the sun shade he kept pulling off the window.
Peek-a-boo
At least Saturday was a good day and made the whole trip worth it. That marks our first road trip with Preston. Mostly a success.
