When we moved in, our basement was completely unfinished. They had plumbed for a half bath and had done the absolute minimum to pass code. When I say the absolute minimum that means some things were done poorly and made finishing the basement a little tricky. We wanted to save as much money as possible with this project so we decided to do it ourselves. This was made possible by soliciting the help of our good friend John. The Fletchers spent countless hours over here with John and Jared working hard in the basement and Camrie and I hanging out taking care of our little boys.
Work started July of 2013. Between Jared working full time, writing a book on the side, and coordinating schedules with John there we many periods of time with no work being done. When January came around we decided to buckle down and get it finished before Sierra came. It took our weekends and nights where Jared and I were working late into the night but we finished days before Sierra came. There are a couple details needing to be finished and the bathroom will have to wait but we now have a beautiful space to spread out a little more.
Unfortunately we didn't really take any before pictures but imagine cement floors and walls with insulation nailed to it.
Instead of couches we thought it would be fun to just get several large love sacs. Thanks to KSL we were able to get our furnishing for hardly anything. It's nice to be able move the love sacs around to sit wherever we want for a movie or move it out of the way to do a workout video.

We're still working on decorating
We wanted to build a food storage room at the bottom of the stairs but decided it would make it too tight of an angle for moving furniture down there. After running through many different options we settled on some basic IKEA book shelves for our food storage. I dream of one day having a large food storage room but until then this is perfect for our small family.
